Devices

Devices are system elements responsible for collecting data and transmitting it to the DataPortal platform.
Each device has a serial number, is assigned to a specific project through a data source, and, via the data source, may have associated tags that describe its parameters or measurement signals.

Device list

The DEVICES tab available in the Resources module displays a list of all telemetry devices registered in the system.
Each row of the table presents basic identification information and technical data for the device, making it easier to manage the device fleet and its links to data sources.

The table includes the following columns:

  • Serial no. – the device's unique serial number assigned by the manufacturer.
  • Network identifier – the identifier used in the device's communication with the system.
  • Model – the device model (e.g. MT-331, MT-713, IS-B01, MT-021).
  • Description – a description of the device given by the user.
  • Source – the name of the data source the device is currently linked to.
  • Project - the name of the project the device is linked to via the data source.
  • Firmware – the device's software version.
  • Date added – the moment the device was registered in the system.
  • Expiry date – the date defining the paid-up period for the device under DataPortal's Comfort billing mode. Once it passes, the device is automatically disconnected from the system.

Additional tools are available in the top right corner:

  • FILTER – lets you filter the list of devices by selected parameters.
  • Search – quick search for devices by phrase.
  • Add button – lets you register a new device in the system.

Device details

Clicking a selected device on the DEVICES tab in the Resources module opens a window with the device details. This window presents the key information about the selected telemetry device. The data is divided into tabs, the main one being the INFO tab.

INFO tab

The INFO tab displays the device's basic parameters, including:

  • Device model - e.g. MT-331, MT-713.
  • Firmware – the device's internal software version.
  • Device identifier – the device's unique number in the system.
  • SIM card – the number of the SIM card assigned to the device (if applicable).
  • Modbus ID – the device's address in Modbus communication.
  • Password – the access password for the device, if used.
  • Project - the name of the project the device is linked to via the data source.
  • Source – the name of the data source the device is currently linked to.

Going to the data source

Clicking the three-dot button next to the source name (if one is associated) lets you go to the source's details.

LOG tab

The second tab provides access to logs related to the device.

Operations on devices

From the DEVICES tab in Resources, you can perform the following actions:

  • Add a new device
  • View the details of a device, including specifying the assigned source
  • Edit the data of an existing device
  • Delete devices from the system

Adding a device

To add a new device:

  1. Open the DEVICES tab in the Resources module.
  2. Click the add-new-resource button in the top right corner and select the New device command.
  3. Enter the device's serial number and activation code.

    Tip

The serial number is found on the device's packaging and on the module's rating plate, and has the format 000-000-000-000. The activation code is the IMEI number preceded by the letter D (e.g. D353-2290-2997-2201). The IMEI number can be found on the device's rating plate or on the packaging.

  4. After clicking SAVE, a new item will appear in the device list, which you can then continue editing.

Deleting a device

To delete a device, click the DELETE button visible in the device details window. Deleting a device from the system will remove the link to its source, if one existed. Before performing this operation, the system displays a dialog box asking for confirmation.

Deleting a device vs. tags

Deleting a device does not delete the data (tags) associated with the source.

Deleting multiple devices at once

To delete several devices at once, select them using the checkboxes in the first column of the list, then choose the Delete selected command from the ACTIONS menu.

To remove the link between a device and a source, click the REMOVE LINK TO SOURCE button available in the device details window.

Searching and filtering

The device table is equipped with functions that make it easier to work with a large number of records:

  • Filtering by device type.
  • Full-text search by device serial number or description.
  • Sorting data in selected columns.
  • Pagination to make browsing large data sets easier.

Search also works in the project tree — after typing a phrase, the system limits the visible branches and projects to only those subfolders and projects that match the search criteria.

Summary

The Devices tab is the central place for managing all physical units that collect data.
With the ability to filter, assign, and view details, the user has full control over the structure and status of devices in the system.
