Data Sources¶
Data sources act as an intermediate element between the physical telemetry device and the SCADA system. They make it possible to maintain data continuity – if a physical device is replaced, it only needs to be reassigned to the existing source.
Source details¶
Clicking a selected source in the sources table (Resources module, SOURCES tab) opens a window presenting detailed information about the selected source. To make working with the data easier and keep it organized, the information is divided into several topic-based tabs:
INFO tab¶
The INFO tab presents the key data describing the source — its name, description, and project assignment. It also contains information about the associated device and parameters related to its configuration.
TAGS tab¶
The TAGS tab presents a list of all tags associated with the data source. Each tag represents a specific variable read from the device or calculated by the system. The table displays key information about the current state of the tags:
- Tag name – the unique identifier of the variable.
- Last value – the last recorded reading.
- Measurement time – the date and time the last value was received.
- Origin – the method by which the data was obtained, e.g. buffer read, event, calculated value.
- Quality – the data validity status (e.g. Good, Bad).
Tools for managing the tag list are located at the top of the tab:
- Adding new tags (the "+" button)
- Searching and filtering tags
Going to a tag
Each row of the table has a context menu () that lets you go to the tag's details.
RAW DATA tab¶
This tab contains the complete set of raw data most recently sent by the device, grouped by address space, address, and value. This data can be helpful when defining and adding new tags.
LOG tab¶
The LOG tab contains entries relating to the source itself — such as its creation, modifications, and other actions of this kind.
Source structure¶
Each source has its own fields describing its properties.
Basic information¶
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Source name | The name identifying the data source in the system (no spaces or special characters). |
| Display name | A friendly name shown in the user interface. |
| Project | The project to which the data source is assigned. |
| Description | An additional description making it easier to identify the source. |
| IP address | The IP address associated with the source (read-only). |
| Communication port | The port used for communicating with the device. |
| Timeout | The maximum time (in milliseconds) to wait for a response from the device. |
| Retries | The number of communication retry attempts in case of no response. |
Associated device¶
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Device | The telemetry device associated with the data source. Identified by serial number and model. |
Time synchronization¶
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Time zone | Specifies the time zone the device should use to synchronize the current time. |
| Use daylight saving time | Enables the automatic application of daylight saving time (DST) according to the selected location. |
| Daylight saving time | The region or scheme for daylight saving time, e.g. Europe. |
| Current time | Information on whether standard or daylight saving time (DST correction) is currently in effect. |
| Allowed time difference [s] | The maximum acceptable difference between the device's time and the system time (in seconds). |
Location¶
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Latitude | The device's position on the north–south axis, expressed in degrees. |
| Longitude | The device's position on the east–west axis, expressed in degrees. |
| Altitude | Height above sea level (in meters). |
Assigning tags to sources¶
Sources are directly linked to tags – each tag represents a specific signal or value retrieved from the source.
For example, the "Cold Store 1" source might have the following tags assigned:
- temperature – the internal temperature of the cold store,
- humidity – humidity,
- door_status – door state (open/closed).
Tags are assigned to sources when they are created or edited.
To do this, use the Source selection field, where you specify the data source the given tag is to be linked with.
Tags can be created and assigned to sources directly in the Resources → TAGS → New tag module (from the add menu), or via Resources → SOURCES → source details → TAGS → Add new tag.
Adding a new source¶
To add a new data source:
- Go to the Resources → module, SOURCES tab.
- Click the add-new-resource button (in the top right corner) and select the New source command.
- Enter the required information (name, description, project, device details, etc.).
- Save the changes.
Once saved, the source will appear in the table and can be further configured.
Editing and deleting sources¶
To edit a data source, select it from the list displayed in the Resources → SOURCES module and click the EDIT button in the details window.
The DELETE button is used to remove a source from the account.
Deleting tags together with the source
All tags associated with the source are deleted together with it. If you want to keep the tags on your account, link them to a different source first.
The REMOVE LINK TO DEVICE button, available for sources currently linked to a device, removes the existing link.
Once used, the source can be linked to a different device, and the freed-up device can be assigned to another source.
