Billing Module

The billing module lets you keep track of your InPoint usage — DataPortal's internal billing unit — on an ongoing basis, and plan your purchases in advance, before your balance runs out. Account status information is available right from the application's top bar, and the module window, opened with a single click, provides full insight into costs and transaction history.

Billing icon

The module is available from the application's top bar, via the credit card icon placed next to the user avatar.

Hovering the cursor over the icon shows a tooltip with information:

  • the current InPoint balance on the account,
  • the estimated number of days until InPoints run out — calculated based on the daily usage from the last billing day.

Warning indicators

When the estimated number of days until the balance runs out drops below set thresholds, an additional warning marker appears on the icon:

  • yellow warning triangle — when the calculated number of days is less than or equal to 21,
  • red warning triangle — when the calculated number of days is less than or equal to 7; this signals that InPoints need to be purchased.

Permissions

All users, regardless of their assigned role, can see the billing icon and its tooltip.

Access to the billing module itself (the window with tabs), however, depends on the role:

  • integrators, administrators, and managers always have access to the billing module,
  • observers and operators only have access to the billing module when the corresponding option is enabled in the account settings, allowing observers and operators of the given account to place orders.

Opening the module

Clicking the billing icon opens the billing module window, divided into five tabs: Balance, Daily cost, Summary, History, and SMS.

BALANCE tab

The first tab presents the current account status:

  • the current InPoint balance,
  • the daily cost (from the last billing day),
  • the calculated number of days until the balance runs out — marked, just like on the icon, in yellow or red if the value is less than or equal to 21 or 7, respectively.

Below is a chart covering the last 3 months, showing the InPoint history — their usage over time and any purchases made.

Chart data can be exported to XLS, CSV, or saved as an image.

DAILY COST tab

The second tab lets you analyze what makes up the current daily cost:

  • on the left is a pie chart showing the breakdown of daily costs by individual cost factors,
  • on the right is a chart showing the breakdown of costs related to data acquisition and storage (cost of data sources, tag updates, and data storage), broken down by individual data source — this lets you compare the costs generated by each source separately.

As in the previous tab, chart data can be exported to XLS, CSV, or as an image.

SUMMARY tab

The third tab shows DataPortal usage costs for a selected period.

Available period options:

  • yesterday,
  • current or previous week,
  • current or previous month,
  • current or previous year,
  • any date range specified manually.

Additionally, you can set:

  • data granularity — daily or monthly,
  • filtering by project.

Results are presented on a bar chart broken down by individual cost components. As in the other tabs, data can be exported to XLS, CSV, or as an image.

HISTORY tab

The fourth tab contains a chronological list of all costs, with the following provided for each item:

  • the date the cost was incurred,
  • a description,
  • the number of cost elements,
  • the amount (in InPoints),
  • the balance after the operation.

The list can be filtered by date, value, or cost type.

SMS tab

The fifth tab presents a summary of sent SMS messages, with the following provided for each item:

  • the date sent,
  • the source that triggered the message,
  • the recipient,
  • the message content,
  • the sending status,
  • the cost.
