Filtering, Searching, and Sorting Data

In the DataPortal system, the user has access to extensive tables and data views presenting system resources — such as projects, data sources, devices, or tags. To make working with large amounts of information easier, the interface offers filtering, searching, sorting, and pagination (splitting data into pages). For hierarchical views, tree search is also available.

Filtering data

Filtering lets you limit the number of visible records to those that meet specified conditions.

  • Filter fields (e.g., device type, project, status, measurement date) are located above the table.
  • After entering filter values and clicking the Apply button, the system refreshes the data, showing only matching records.
  • Several filters can be combined at once to get more precise results.
  • To restore the full list, use the Clear filters button.

Searching

The search field allows you to quickly find a specific item or group of items.

  • Search works on selected columns (e.g., device name, tag, source identifier).
  • Simply type a fragment of text — the system automatically filters the data, and the results update live as you type additional characters.

Searching the project tree

In tree-structure-based views (e.g., projects, folders, devices, screens), a search function is available.

  • After typing text into the search field, the tree is automatically narrowed down to branches and elements matching the search criteria.
  • Only folders that contain matching elements or child nodes remain visible.
  • Buttons are available at the top of the tree:
    • Expand all – expands all branches of the tree, making it easier to browse the full structure.
    • Collapse all – closes all branches, leaving only the top level.
  • This function is especially useful in large projects containing many folders and devices.

Sorting data

Selected table columns can be sorted in ascending or descending order.

  • Clicking a column header changes the order of the records.
  • The active sorting column is marked with a ▲ or ▼ icon.
  • Successive clicks change the sort direction.
  • Sorting can be applied independently of filters and search.

Pagination (splitting into pages)

For large data sets, the table is automatically split into pages.

  • At the bottom of the table there is a navigation bar with Next and Previous buttons, along with a selector for the number of records per page (e.g., 10, 50, 100).

Practical tips

  • For large data sets, it's worth combining filters and tree search to quickly narrow down the view.
  • Use the Collapse all button to simplify tree navigation, then Expand all when you want to review the full structure.
  • If there are no results, check whether the applied filters or search phrases are too restrictive.
  • Sorting and pagination also work after the data has been filtered, making it easier to further analyze the results.
