System Operating Modes¶
The DataPortal system supports several distinct operating modes, corresponding to different stages of managing, configuring, and operating the system. Depending on the permissions they hold, a user has access to a selected subset of them.
Resource management mode¶
In this mode, the user can manage the system's structure, including:
- creating, editing, and deleting projects, folders, and resources (devices, tags, data sources, synoptic screens),
- defining communication parameters and device configuration,
- organizing the data structure in the project tree.
This mode is available to users with administrator and manager permissions (within the projects assigned to them).
Screen design mode¶
The DataPortal Designer module allows you to design and modify synoptic screens, i.e. graphical visualizations of processes and devices. In this mode, the user can:
- arrange graphical elements (device symbols, indicators, buttons),
- link graphical objects to the corresponding data tags,
- define the behavior logic of interactive elements (e.g. buttons, alarms),
- save and test changes to the screen layout.
This mode is available to users with the appropriate editing permissions (administrator and manager).
Screen animation mode¶
This is the system's actual operating mode, in which data from devices is retrieved on an ongoing basis and updated in real time on synoptic screens. In this mode, the user:
- observes current measured values from devices,
- can respond to alarms and events,
- can control executive devices,
- uses the visualization for ongoing process monitoring.
No editing or configuration functions are available here. This mode is the basic way of using the system for users with operator and observer permissions.
You can find more information about this operating mode in the next chapter.
